Fluorine rubber (FKM) has a series of excellent properties such as oil resistance, high temperature resistance, solvent resistance, strong acid resistance, strong oxidant resistance, flame retardancy, and aging resistance, so it is used in national defense, aerospace, electronic communications, vehicles and ships, petrochemicals and other cutting-edge technology fields have been widely used.


The leading product in the market is the binary FKM copolymerized with vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP). Its composition is: VDF mole fraction 80%, fluorine mass fraction about 66%, Tg is -20°C. In recent years, the demand for ternary FKM, which is copolymerized into tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and reduces VDF content (increases fluorine content), has increased significantly. For ternary FKM, the higher the fluorine content, the better the chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, oil resistance, and fuel penetration resistance, but the low-temperature characteristics will deteriorate. At present, the low-temperature characteristics of various grades of commercially available FKM are shown in the table.

As products that improve low-temperature characteristics, in addition to FKM in which perfluorovinyl ether is copolymerized, there are fluorine-containing silicon (FVMQ) and FKM containing hexafluoropropylene oxide units in the main chain.
